The Psychology Department at Nottingham Trent University is seeking an additional lecturer in forensic psychology and/or forensic mental health to further strengthen our research and to meet the demands of new course provision and increased student numbers in our undergraduate, MSc and doctoral programmes. There are a number of Chartered and Registered Forensic and Clinical Psychologists in the department, so the successful candidate would be joining a team of practitioner psychologists.

Forensic Psychology at NTU

We have a strong commitment to forensic psychology at all levels of our provision. On our undergraduate programme we have a forensic pathway for students who want to focus on this area. The third year of this course has a number of specialist forensic options which always attract a lot of students. We have a successful and popular MSc in Forensic Psychology and a D.Psych. programme which attracts practicing forensic psychologists who want to obtain a doctorate. We also have a popular MSc in Forensic Mental Health. We employ practitioners and academics to deliver these courses and we place a high value on practice-based teaching. We welcome applications from practitioners who are looking towards a career in HE while still maintaining their links with practice.  Our research in forensic psychology is a strength for the department and we are currently involved in research programmes with local prisons on such topics as the treatment of people convicted of sex offences and in developing interventions to reduce self-harm in prison populations. Our research has national and international recognition. Our staff have also been central in the developing of the Safer Living Foundation which focuses on reducing sexual offending through rehabilitative and preventative initiatives. This work won the Social and Community Impact Award at the Guardian University Awards in 2016.

The Department

You will be joining a very large, lively, diverse, collegiate and ambitious group with an excellent reputation for its theoretically informed impactful and applied research and its teaching provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

In the submission to REF2014 (Unit of Assessment A04, http://www.ref.ac.uk/) 60% of our research outputs were identified as internationally excellent or world leading and 100% of our research impact was recognised as internationally excellent with 73% described as world leading. Our commitment to teaching is shown by the collaboration of over 50 staff to create an introductory text for SAGE (2nd edition published in 2015, 3rd edition in press) and by our showing in the National Student Survey (NSS) where we have been in the top ten of UK Psychology departments for the last three years. Ongoing strategic investment in terms of staffing numbers, the continuing professional development of staff, research support, laboratory facilities and funded PhD students continues to allow us to develop further and to meet the ambitions of the University’s strategic plan across the full range of our activities.

Applicants

Applicants will have a PhD or professional doctorate in Psychology (or equivalent) and/or be a Chartered / HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist. You should be an enthusiastic teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting students' development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mentoring and support for development in both teaching and research will be provided to appointees appropriate to their level of experience.
